Drainage Grates for the Shower – A Better Solution for Hospitals and Aged-care Facilities

A typical shower drain is nothing more than a round hole in the middle of the shower but the drainage grates that we offer provide a number of benefits over the typical shower drain. Our drainage grates are made to be used in what is known as a linear shower drain or shower grate. This is a long, rectangular drain that is level with the shower pan and the bathroom floor. This design has a number of benefits, some of which are very important in Hospital and Aged-care Facilities.

One of the main benefits is that a long, rectangular shower grate is going to channel water away much more efficiently than a small circular shower drain. Water doesn’t have time to collect because it is channeled away quickly. By eliminating standing water from the shower you can reduce the chances of slipping and falling accidents.

Another benefit of linear shower drains is that they can be installed in a way that they are perfectly level with the shower pan and the bathroom floor and they can even create a barrier between the shower and the rest of the bathroom so that there is no need for a shower door. That is important because a level transition from the bathroom floor to the shower means that there is no need to step up to get in or out of the shower. This makes it a lot easier for elderly or disabled people. A shower with no threshold also makes it possible to use a wheelchair or a walker to get into the shower.

Because the drainage grates themselves can be used as a barrier between the shower and the rest of the bathroom and there is no need for a shower door, this provides a lot more room inside the shower itself. This means that there is room for a shower chair or a bench, handles, or any other safety equipment for elderly or disabled people.

If you are going to be pushing a wheelchair over the drainage grates it is very important that they are made of a durable material. A lot of companies use 304 grade stainless steel which is durable and corrosion resistant. However, at SAS Drainage Solutions we use 316 grade stainless steel for all of our shower drainage grates. 316 grade stainless steel is also known as marine grade stainless steel because of its improved corrosion resistance. This type of steel is important in the hospital environment, as it has less chance of bacterial buildup. Our shower grates are incredibly durable and will resist any corrosion from the various chemicals and cleaning supplies that would be found in a hospital setting making them perfect for any application that calls for a safe, high-performing, long-lasting shower drainage solution.
